In May 2003 we made a reconnaissance trip to Arizona and Utah. Our main goal was to check out the canyon country to decide where we'd like to return for a longer stay, but we also visited a few famous tourist spots and significant cliff-dwelling sites (a longstanding interest).
Our itinerary included the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, the Navajo National Monument (site of the Betatakin dwellings), the Valley of the Gods, Canyon de Chelly, Natural Bridges National Monument, Capitol Reef National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, and Zion National Park. Didn't make it to Arches or Canyonlands this time, but they're on our list.
